Elvera Beightler Obituary
ELVERA BEIGHTLER was born June 1924, in Piper City, Illinois and peacefully went to meet Jesus on Thursday, August 6, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She was the only child of Ersle and Alma Quick and often spoke fondly of her days on the farm. She married Billy "William" Beightler on June 11, 1947, and they raised three children in Mattoon, Illinois where she learned to garden, canning her fruits and vegetables, as well as making jams and jellies. She was an excellent cook, and passed on her skills to the women in her life. As a homemaker and a fantastic seamstress, she sewed all of her children's clothing, and passed on her love of sewing to her granddaughters. They moved to Highland, California in 1968, and then lived in Calimesa for many years. Elvera moved to Folsom, California in 1998, after the passing of her beloved Bill, to be near her son. Her sense of humor kept everyone laughing, like when she said "I moved to Los Osos in 2003 with my son and his wife, when they followed my granddaughter because she was a bit of a free spirit. She's got it together now." Elvera liked living in Los Osos where she played cards with her gals at Morro Shores Mobile Home Park several days a week. She attended Rock Harbor Christian Fellowship Church in Morro Bay, California where she enjoyed hearing God's Word and singing hymns. Elvera enjoyed camping and traveling for many years and was always up for an adventure. She said travel was in her blood so much so that her mother used to call her "Wheels" because she always wanted to go. She made multiple trips across the United States, cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, and several trips to Mexico and Canada. Her most treasured trip was going back to Illinois; finding the farm where she was born and seeing all the places where she grew up and lived. She called it her "sentimental journey." Elvera loved to watch college and professional sports and was an avid LA Angels baseball fan. When she moved to Northern California, she had to abandon the LA Lakers and root for the Sacramento Kings. We always knew she would see the error of her ways. Elvera is survived by her son Steven and daughter-in-law Joan Beightler; granddaughters Lisa (Aaron) Lemperes, Amy (Nate) Jones; great grandchildren Adelyn, Sophia, and James Lemperes; son Mark Beightler; grandchildren Kurt and Shelby; daughter Susan and son-in-law Dean Newcomb, as well as many friends and extended family. Mom and Grammie will be dearly missed and we are all better people because she was in our lives and loved us. Thank you to Fran, Megan, Robyn and many others at Wilshire Hospice who loved and cared for Elvera during her fight with cancer. She was greatly loved by her caretaker Jamie and the family is very grateful for the care and companionship she provided Elvera in her final months. Elvera will be remembered at a celebration of her life on Friday, September 18, 2015, at 11:00 am at the California Avenue Christian Fellowship Church, 8223 California Avenue, Riverside, CA 92504. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Wilshire Hospice, 277 South St., Ste. W, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 or a .
