Eunice LaVonn Preku Obituary
Age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton, California. She was born on December 24, 1925, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Edwin and Lena Minge, and was the second oldest of six children. Eunice was a 1942 graduate of Fergus Falls High School. After high school, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she met the love of her life, John Preku. They were married on June 1, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. After a year of marriage, they ventured west to Bishop, California, where she worked as a telephone operator until they started a family in 1951. Over the next eight years, they had three children. Eunice was raised a Norwegian Lutheran, and throughout her life, her relationship with God took precedence. It was through Eunice's faithfulness that her family learned about Jesus, their Lord and Savior. Her life consistently revolved around her family and church. At church, she was active in Ladies' Guild, and she taught Sunday School and VBS. She loved to sing, most especially in church and with the Bishop Sweet Adelines. She passed on her passionate love for God and music to her children, encouraging all three to enjoy the beauty of music and praising the Lord. Aside from her musical gifts, Eunice was a skilled seamstress, which led her to do alterations for local stores and teach girls to sew as a 4-H leader. As time progressed, she opened her own tailoring shop. In 1984, John and Eunice left Bishop and moved to Murrieta, California. John passed away shortly after in 1985 after battling cancer. She pursued her final profession in finance working for H & R Block as a tax preparer. She spent nearly forty years at H & R Block, retiring at 89 years old, earning her the esteemed honor of being H & R Block's second oldest tax preparer. She loved all her different jobs, but to no surprise, her family always held the deepest place in her heart, especially her nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Eunice cultivated unique and incredibly special relationships with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She possessed the innate ability to make every person she encountered feel as if they were the most treasured person in the world to her. Eunice lived a vibrant life in Murrieta until 2016, joining a women's choir, playing in a bowling league, traveling, and spending as much time as possible with her beloved family. When her physical mobility no longer enabled her to live alone, she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Walnut, CA, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Eunice is survived by two sisters: Muriel Silseth of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Delores Lillemon of West Unity, Ohio; her three children: John Preku of Reno, Nevada, Phyllis Lindley of Irvine, California, and Cyndi McClelland of Diamond Bar, California; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.. She touched countless lives with her joyous spirit, unshakable faith, and selfless love. Please join us for a celebration of her life at 10 AM on Saturday, November 18, at Grace Lutheran Church, in Bishop, California. A graveside service will follow at 12 PM, at Pioneer Cemetery.
