Evelyn Raab Obituary
EVELYN RAAB, a resident of Norco, CA, since 1980, passed away at home on September 9, 2015. Her devoted husband of 66 years, Leonard, was at her bedside. Evelyn (born Smith), fully embraced the backyard farm environment of Norco. She and Leonard were among the founding members of RURAL, a community group dedicated to preserving that lifestyle. Evelyn enjoyed trail riding, and raised horses specifically bred for the sport of jumping. She was an enthusiastic Horse Show Mom for her daughters Jill (Jones) and Cindy (Hale). Also a dog lover, Evelyn discovered the fun of Jack Russell terrier meets. Her personal dog, Bandit, was a Jack Russell terrier she rescued and adopted. Evelyn had a distinguished career in nursing. She earned her RN title in 1951, when she graduated from the famed nursing school at Los Angeles General Hospital. Later, she earned both her BSN and certification as a paramedic nurse. For 18 years she was the supervisor of the emergency room at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach. She was promoted to nighttime House Supervisor at Hoag, a position she held until she retired in 1995 after 35 years of employment with Hoag. A vivacious, kind and generous spirit, Evelyn is survived by Leonard, her two daughters and a son, Brian. Her presence will also be missed by two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, her identical twin Elaine (Holliday), sister Thelma (Reade) and brother Charles Smith. A large extended family and many friends also mourn her passing. Evelyn was laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery on September 17.
