Obituary Condolences

EZRA A COX, JR. 2/27/1944 - 11/17/2015 On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, having completed the work the Lord has assigned him, Ezra Cox stepped into the final phase of his eternal life with the Lord. Ezra was born and raised in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Ezra A. Cox Sr. and Elizabeth Greer Cox. In 1985 Ezra, along with his wife, Sherry and 2 children, moved to Southern California and has lived in Hemet, California since that time. Ezra graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and Southeast Missouri State University. He held a Bachelor degree in education. Ezra taught art and industrial arts in elementary and high school, having, at one time, served as the art department chairman at Poplar Bluff High School. For many years, Ezra then worked beside his father at Cox Insurance Agency, prior to moving to California. Ezra was very skilled in computerized architectural drawing and worked a few years with a plumbing company in Temecula, California using these skills. Ezra married his wife of 51 years, Sharon Cox, nee Slabaugh (Sherry) in 1964 in Poplar Bluff. They have truly been inseparable since that time. They have 2 children: Ezra A Cox, III of Granbury, Texas and Megan Brooke Cox of Hemet, California. They have 7 grandchildren: Daniel, Jacob, Erin, Elisha, Riley, Elisabeth and Ryan. Also surviving is Ezra's sister Evelyn Jones of Poplar Bluff, along with her husband Don Jones, and his one nephew Dr. Don Jones of Poplar Bluff. Ezra was well known for his love for adventure and his willingness to try anything! This led him to experiences in paragliding, scuba diving, cave exploring, motorcycling, canoeing the rapids and hiking. Above all the great things Ezra was to his family and friends, a man of great integrity, he served God all of his life. Ezra made his decision to follow the steps of Jesus when he was 5 years old and always lived up to the meaning of his name - Ezra means "the helper." He was a true humble servant to all, he could intuitively see where help was needed and stepped in eagerly. He always seemed tireless to all who worked with him. In recent years, Ezra and Sherry have traveled to many countries, including India and Kenya and others to serve where needed-building churches and schools, helping Sherry organize free medical clinics and teaching. As a ministering servant in Kenya, Ezra was honored by being granted a role as "elder" in the African church and was given a tribal name: Karaoke. This means: "One who comes bouncing back, one who can't be kept down!" While this is nearly an unbearable transition for Ezra's friends and family, we faithfully accept this as a continued plan for his life and rejoice with him! Ezra's life will be celebrated at Valle Vista Assembly of God, Hemet, California on Saturday, November 21 at 4:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 3:00PM. Interment will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 11:00AM at Sunnyslope Cemetery on Pennsylvania Ave. in Beaumont, California.
