Feryl C. Barnett Obituary
FERYL C. BARNETT October 16, 1926 - June 5, 2015 My mom was an incredible woman. She touched so many lives. Born and raised in Layton, Utah, my mom grew up in a town where everyone was either your relative or your friend. Choosing nursing as her profession, she spent 35 years as a nurse and a nurse practitioner. In her late 50s, she went back to school and earned a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Nursing Research. We were so proud of her, we called her Dr. Mom. She taught at UCLA graduate school of nursing. Ready for her next chapter, she retired and sang with the Riverside Master Chorale, served two years on the Grand Jury, grew bonsai trees, took piano lessons, and built a cello. Yes, at 80 years old, my mom built a cello. After my dad passed, my mom moved out to Sun City Shadow Hills and lived around the corner from us for the last three years. She joined the Community Singers, took ukulele lessons, and played bocce ball. She loved to play canasta and hand and foot - we held fun competitions several nights a week. We will miss her bright spirit and positive outlook. Her love, patience, compassion, strength, and perseverance are traits that she lived by and never wavered. She is so special and so deeply loved. She would always refer to death, with the phrase, "when I get my wings." My mom has joined my sister and my father and many others who love her. She has her wings now.
