FRANCIS JOSEPH POTHIER
September 30, 1930 - April 24, 2017

Born to Peter and Delia Pothier in Bottineau, North Dakota he was the 9th of 10 children. His family moved when he was young to Yakima, Washington, where he lived until being drafted into the Army in 1949 at the age of 19. He was honorably discharged and received the Bronze Star for creative ingenuity.
His career started at a paper mill in Washington State, working there until he joined up with the United Paper Workers International Union as a representative and relocated to California. He was elected Vice President of Region 11 in 1984 until his retirement in 1996. It was during one of his international trips to France that he met his wife Albine in 1985 and they married in July of 1987.
In his retirement golf and traveling to most of the countries in the world became his life. Getting the opportunity to play the Old and New course in St. Andrew, Scotland, was one of the highlights of his game.
Most recently he enjoyed all of his Golf Bucket Trips to different places in the country and Canada, including one to St. Augustine Florida where his daughters placed a brick at the Golf Hall of Fame next to Arnold Palmer.
He was very active in his community with volunteering for many duties. He had been the President of the men's golf club, and the President of the travel club both of Canyon Lake. Living in Canyon Lake he played golf 5 to 6 times a week and managed to get 4 holes in one.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Albine Pothier; sons Barry Baker (Laurie), Leonard Baker (Carol); daughters Sheree Hurley (Dennis), Pam Nelson (Ed); 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and his youngest sister Genevieve Root and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11:30am Saint Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 27931 Murrieta Rd., Sun City, CA 92586 with a Celebration of Life following in Canyon Lake.
