Francis Snell Obituary
Age 94, passed away June 20, 2018 in Desert Hot Springs, California. The youngest of three children, Russ was born September 21, 1923 in New Castle, Indiana to Elizabeth Wenz and Thomas Boliver Snell, II. His sister, Alice, and brother, Thomas, preceded Russ in death. A veteran of WWII Russ served in the 101st Airborne. He participated in the D-Day Normandy Invasion, the Market Garden Operation, and the Battle of the Bulge. Russ earned numerous accolades and medals including the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Good Conduct Medal. Russ is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Anne (Delafield-Tomlin) Snell; two daughters: Jayne and Lisa; three step-children: Robert, Richard and Tanya; eleven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and extended family.
Interment will be held on July 2, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518. In honor of Russ and all Veterans you are invited to make a donation on behalf of Francis Russell Snell to either of these organizations: VFW, DESERT HOT SPRINGS -- 1 Club House Drive, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92241; PALM SPRINGS WWII AIR MUSEUM -- 745 N Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs, CA 92262. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Nov 18, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at Desert Crest Country Club, 69400 N Country Club Drive, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92241.
