Obituary Condolences

FRANK ADDISON CATTERN II Age 87, formerly of Riverside California, died February 12, 2013 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was born September 28, 1925 in Oxnard, California to Newton and Lulu (Winship) Cattern. Frank left high school his junior year and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the start of WWII. He served aboard landing crafts in the Pacific theatre and helped take many islands held by the Japanese including Iwo Jima. After returning from service, he completed high school and later graduated from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed by the U.S. government at the U.S. Naval Weapons Center at China Lake, Ca, where he worked for many years in the missile program. After retiring from the government, he worked at General Dynamics for five years. Frank was married to Deborah Beard from 1953-1989. They raised four children. He then married Mary Smet in 1994. Frank and Mary enjoyed many happy years traveling the country in his beloved motor home. He was also a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. Frank is survived by his wife, Mary; four children and their spouses, Frank Cattern III (Leslie), Newton Cattern, Sally Tavaglione (Steve), and Sloan Walsh (Bob), all of California; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; three sisters; four step-children and their spouses, Kevin Smet (Christy), Christy Quigly (Scott), all of Green Bay; Sheri Trest (Eddie), Hernando, MS; Brian Smet (Charlene), Bellingham, Wa; 11 step-grandchildren; one step great grandchild. A memorial was held in Green Bay, Wisconsin on February 16th. A private graveside burial will be held at the family ancestral gravesite at San Gabriel Cemetery in San Gabriel, Ca on March 22, 2013.
