FRANK LESLIE HAGGERTY, JR. Nov. 13, 1917 - Nov. 4, 2001 Loved and missed more than words can say. Frank was born in Elkins, W. VA, and earned a Master's of Science degree in Forestry from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Drafted immediately into the army he attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Belvoir, VA., and went overseas as a 2nd Lt. with the 828th Aviation Engineers and served the next four years in the Pacific islands including the New Hebrides, Munda, Biak, Luzon, Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. Under Kamikaze attack his company was preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. Returned to civilian life he married his college sweetheart, Ruth Bennett, then worked as a forester in Maryland and Mississippi until called back by the army to serve 2 more yrs. overseas in Korea with the 323 Lt. Equip. Co. Back in the U.S. he moved to Calif. where he worked for Southern Calif. Gas and Armstrong Nursery in Ontario until hired as a forester by the federal gov't. Worked for the Bur. of Land Management and the Bur. of Indian Affairs (both southern and northern Calif.) and continued until his retirement in 1983 as a Tribal Operations Officer in the Riverside, CA. area field office of the Bur. of Indian Affairs. An avid reader and TV sports fan he was also a Master Mason, member of Evergreen Lodge 259 A & M, a Master Gardener of the UCR Botanic Gardens, a member of NARFE (Nat'l Assn. of Retired Fed. Employees), a volunteer at the Jurupa Cultural Center, and a life member of VFW Post 9223, Riverside, CA. A devoted husband and father, Frank was referred to by one of his colleagues in the BIA as "The Finest man I have ever known." Loving him always, Karen, Buzz, Holly and Ruthie
