Franklin J. Faux Obituary
FRANKLIN J. FAUX passed away in Moreno Valley, California on November 29, 2015. He was born to Eugene L. Faux and Alta Justesen Faux on October 17, 1925 in Coalville, Utah. At age 19, as part of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, he served in the European theater of World War II for two years. He moved with the troops from France into Germany. He helped photographically document Jewish victims of Nazi concentration camps. On December 22, 1948 he married in the LDS Salt Lake temple the love of his life, Jocelyn Hart (Faux), a marriage that lasted over 65 years. He graduated from Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, eventually completing advanced degrees in chemistry. He taught in the physical sciences for two years at Preston High School in Idaho, and for 6 years at the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah. In 1966 he moved his family to Riverside, California where he eventually became a Principal Chemist for the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), retiring in 1988. At that time he began to show symptoms of Parkinson's disorder, which became a growing challenge for the remainder of his life. He was an avid and capable pianist, practicing hours each day, even as hand movements became difficult due to his disease. He was a devoted LDS High Priest, and always a strong believer in the power of prayer. He loved astronomy, computer programming, and rock collecting. He is survived by his wife Jocelyn, and by his sons Steven Faux (Crystal Nunally) and Brian Faux (Belinda Faux). He has five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two siblings, Dr. Eugene Faux and Mary Faux (Wood). There will be two memorial services: (1) LDS Mt. Rubidoux Chapel, 5900 Grand Ave., Riverside, CA at 11:00am on December 4th there will be a 10:00AM viewing; and (2) Arlette Day Cultural Hall, 4914 S. State St., Murray, UT at 11:00am on December 11th. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 South Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.
