FRED EUGENE HOFER, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Hemet CA, on Jan. 21, 2016. Fred was born Feb. 21, 1929 in Salt Lake City, UT, the oldest son of Fred and Hertha Hofer, he has 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He was raised in Granger, WY on a 6000 acre cattle ranch. He married Renee Platts on Dec. 24, 1945 in Salt Lake City, UT, they are the parents of 8 children. They moved to California in 1953. He was a building contractor in the San Fernando Valley for over 35 years. They later moved to Hemet and were the owners of Peppertree Stock Farm; raising Thoroughbred Race Horses. He was preceded in death by 3 of his children: Terrell, living only a few hours; Russell, killed in Vietnam; and Kristi of complications from heart surgery. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 70 years Renee and his children Karla and Larry Burcar, Doug Hofer, Kerri Smith, Kelli and Bryan Skinner, Jeff Hofer and Jim Stephan. He has 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; serving as Bishop in the San Jacinto Ward for 6 years. He was happiest with a hammer in his hand, and known by many as "Uncle Dad". Services will be Friday, Jan. 29, at 11:00am, viewing at 10:00am, at the LDS Chapel on Park Hill. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth, CA.
