Fred Reis Obituary
FRED REIS Surrounded by his loving wife and devoted children, Fred Reis passed away in Banning, CA on January 20, 2013. He was born to the late Frederick and Geraldine Reis in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 20, 1936 and was one of five children. He was an Army veteran serving on active duty from February 1953 to December 1958 after which he transferred to the Army Reserve where he served until 1961. While in the Army, he met Twila Langdon on a blind date and they were married on September 10, 1954 in Denver, Colorado. Fred and Twila raised their family in Corona, California where they resided for 52 years. Fred worked in management while his children were young, and then pursuing his passion, started his own successful general construction contracting business, which he operated for thirty years, retiring in 2010. He had a strong work ethic, which he instilled in his children, but always reserved weekends to enjoy with his family. Sometimes it was a day at the zoo with a picnic lunch, others it was a backpacking trip to the top of a local peak. He was a skilled woodworker, knew how to fix anything, loved being in the mountains, was an avid backpacker, and a gourmet cook who served up family favorite authentic German dishes and grilled a steak to perfection. He was a man of few words but made each one count. Fred was a lifetime Catholic serving in the Knights of Columbus and was a committed member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks serving as Exalted Ruler of the Corona Elks Lodge in 1998-1999, as California State Vice President in 2003-2004, and as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 2005-2006. Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sr. Geraldine Reis of the Order of the Carmelites; and his brother George Reis. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Twila; his son Scott (Stella); his daughters Susan Reis and Sandra Green (Scott); granddaughter Sarah Reis; grandson Nathan Green; brother Richard Reis (Pat); and sister Sr. Therese Ann Reis of the Sisters of Charity and many other family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM and will be immediately followed by a reception held at the Corona Elks Lodge. Private interment at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Elks National Foundation, or the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California. Forever Loved.
