GAYLAND EUGENE HOOD Gayland passed away April 30, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. He was born September 4, 1931 in Riverside, living there his entire life. Mr. Gay Hood is survived by his wife Gail Fairbairn Hood; three sons, Steve Hood, Tobin Hood, and Bruce Hood; three step children, Rod Muller Jr., Cathy Dean, and Chris Muller; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Also surviving him are his sister, Patsy Holmes, and his brother, Jerry Hood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Hedy Hood and his first wife, Patricia Huber Hood. Gay will be remembered as a successful and dedicated owner of the Riverside car dealership Gay Hood Pontiac/Muller-Hood Pontiac and Buick. Over the years, his involvement in the Riverside community included, but was not limited to the Poly Bear Booster Club, the RCC Tiger Backers, the YMCA, the Victoria Country Club, and the Monday Morning Group. In his earlier years, Gay attended Magnolia Elementary School, Central Middle School, Riverside Poly High School, RCC, Fullerton and USC, excelling in swimming and participating in diving exhibitions throughout California. He also served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Gay was enthusiastic about snow skiing, snow mobiling, golfing with the Vikings and friends, working in his avocado grove and spending quality time with his close friends and family. His vibrant personality, optimistic outlook on life, and his robust laughter will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area #2 at 11:15am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to RCC Tiger Backers, Poly Bear Booster Club or Vitas Hospice (909) 386-6000.
