Geoffrey Goedecke Obituary
Geoff went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2017 at age 65. Geoff was born in Cody, Wyoming on October 13, 1951 with congenital rubella syndrome which resulted in several birth defects. Despite his disabilities, Geoff lived a relatively normal life thanks to the loving care and mentoring from his mother. He lived a happy childhood in Los Altos, California with his parents and three siblings.
As an advocate for the disabled, Geoff was a founding member of People First of Santa Clara County. In 1981, he was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown to the State Council of Developmental Disabilities. As a spokesman, Geoff gave presentations in support of the disabled. He was devoted to the cause of all people with developmental disabilities.
Geoff was a gifted bowler, winning several first-place trophies in local competitions. He also traveled extensively with his family and parents.
Following the deaths of Geoff's parents, Paula and Charles, in early 2000, Geoff's sister, Susan Coulombe, became Geoff's conservator and looked after him until his passing. Geoff was a client of the Inland Regional Center and lived in homes for the disabled in Temecula, Murrieta and Sun City.
Geoff had a gentle demeanor and a fun-loving spirit He was loved by those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and caregivers. He is survived by his three siblings, Scott Goedecke, Susan Coulombe and Lisa Aschberger.
This poem expresses Geoff's belief in the Lord and life after death: I'M FREE
Don't grieve for me for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of the day
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh a kiss
Ah yes, these things I too will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
Got wanted me now, He set me free
