Gerald Eugene Stewart

1925 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
GERALD EUGENE STEWART April 1, 1925 - March 13, 2014 Gerald "Jerry" Eugene Stewart died in his home in Riverside, CA on March 13, 2014. Born in Arcata, CA on April 1, 1925 to Joe Donald Stewart and Madge Helen (Paull) Stewart, he grew up in Washington, the middle of three children; he had an older brother, Don and a younger sister, Justine. Jerry married Audrey Thalia Stevia in 1945 at Forest Lawn. Within a week he was shipped to Hilo, Hawaii where he worked on aircraft for the remainder of his Navy duty. After his discharge from the Navy (in 1946) he returned to Seattle, finished high school and earned his B.S. degree in Physics at Seattle Pacific College. In 1952 Jerry accepted a job in Corona, California with the National Bureau of Standards, which later became the Naval Ordinance Lab, and still later, Fleet Missile Systems Analysis and Evaluation Group. Jerry continued to work for FMSAEG as the head of the Data Automation Department until his retirement in 1980. Jerry and Audrey had four children (Merrilee, Colleen, Kathy, and Tim) who they raised in their home in Corona. Jerry and Audrey lived there for 44 years until they moved to Riverside in 2000. While in Corona, Jerry was generous with his time and talent, serving his community in a volunteer capacity for a number of organizations, including the church, the Corona Public Library, Boy Scouts of America, and Resources for Infant Educarers in Los Angeles. He was anything but conventional in his approach to life, interjecting his amazing sense of humor in most of life's ups and downs. Jerry touched many lives, always present to lend a hand and provide support. A loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jerry most enjoyed spending time with his family. Jerry had a way of making each person in his acquaintance feel special, whether family, friend or coworker. Family and friends alike will miss Jerry's knowing smile and his acceptance of whatever life brought. Gerald E. Stewart is survived by his wife, Audrey; four children and their spouses (Merrilee Howard & Marty Howard, Colleen Stewart & Tom Partridge, Kathy Conover & Bob Conover, and Tim Stewart & Jill Stewart); six grandchildren (Erika Brooke, Heather Howard, Levi Conover, Ian Conover, Kaely Stewart and Tess Stewart), a great granddaughter (Mila Conover), his sister Justine Stolte; treasured cousins; and nephews & nieces. A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, April 12th, at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of Calvary Presbyterian Church, located at 4495 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501, with a reception following.
