Gerald "Jerry" Hudock Obituary
GERALD "JERRY" HUDOCK Gerald "Jerry" Hudock, age 79, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his home in Riverside, CA following a battle with bladder cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Beverly Hudock; his daughter, Sheila Brown; his sons, Mark and Matthew Hudock; his cousins, Joyner Jadek and Randy Morgan; and many other close family and friends. Born and raised in Highland Park, Michigan, Jerry and his family moved to California in 1980 where they lived in Corona, Norco and Riverside. Growing up, Jerry lived in a small but loving household on Buena Vista Avenue where he learned the importance of family-a belief that he carried the rest of his life. While he worked in the family sundry shop, Jerry's real passion was baseball, where he excelled in the American Legion leagues. This eventually earned him the option of a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, but ever the family man, he took his mother's advice and chose not to pursue it. As a young man, Jerry served in the Air Force as an Air Policeman in the 758 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at Makah Air Force Station in Neah Bay, WA from February 1955 to December 1958. Jerry earned an honorable discharge and always spoke fondly of his Air Force service. Jerry met his future wife Beverly during a jam session at a local dance hall. After a prolonged courtship, they wed and settled down to start a family. The couple always put the children first and sacrificed so much for their children's well being. Throughout his career, Jerry worked at a variety of jobs, including as a shop foreman at Hope Picture Frame Company and as a local delivery driver and scheduler for American Truck Parts. Jerry finished his career as a weight master for Synegro Corp. After 50+ years working, he entered into a well-deserved retirement. Throughout his life, Jerry was an avid baseball and ice hockey fan, cheering on (and often cussing at) the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. He only casually followed the Detroit Lions, knowing that they would never win anything. Jerry also found much enjoyment in gardening-working the soil, he prided himself on his lemon trees, tomato and pepper plants. Jerry Hudock was a good man, a great father and a loving husband. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service celebrating Jerry's life will be held on August 13th at 11:00 am at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside, CA. Family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jerry's name to Inland Valley Hospice of Riverside.
