Gerald "Jerry" Throckmorton Obituary
GERALD "JERRY" THROCKMORTON Age 94, passed away July 8, 2016. He was born in Fresno, Ca August 1, 1921. He was the first born and the last surviving of five sons born to Marie and Frank Throckmorton. Jerry is survived by his wife, Vicki Puterbaugh; his daughters, Karen Machado and Kris Spencer; his sons, Jay Throckmorton and Paul Throckmorton; eleven grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children. After graduation from Santa Clara High School in 1939, he attended San Jose State University. He was a printer in the Navy during World War II. Jerry became a successful Realtor in the San Francisco Bay area in 1955. In 1987 he thought he had retired when he and Vicki bought an RV and toured Mexico, Canada and Alaska. In 1989 they discovered and fell in love with Temecula, CA. Jerry's retirement quickly ended when Vicki got her real estate license in 1990. With Jerry's continuous work and support, they flourished in local real estate and enjoyed volunteering in the growing community. Jerry was a charter member of Temecula Valley Elks Lodge 2801. He was named Elk of the Year in 2004. He enthusiastically delivered the Neighbors' Newspapers as part of an Elks' service. At 89, he received recognition as their "oldest paper boy". He felt he'd come full circle; he was Santa Clara's first paper boy when he was 13. For years Jerry was active in the Realtors' Food Drives for the local pantries. He volunteered at the Wine and Balloon Festival, the Susan G. Koman Run and was very active with the Habitat for Humanity local home builds. Jerry said his philosophy was "Every Day's a Holiday" because every day something good happened to him. His beautiful attitude and zest for life brought much fun to the lives of others. He will be greatly missed. Celebration for his life will be Sunday, July 31, 3-6 pm at the Temecula Elks' Lodge, 2801 at 28061 Diaz Rd., Temecula. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, Monday, August 1 at 11:15 am.
