Geraldine Helen Baldwin-Woods Obituary
GERALDINE HELEN BALDWIN-WOODS Geraldine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Pacifica Senior Living in Riverside. Born on August 12, 1930 in Tucson, AZ, the family moved to San Pedro where she and her sister Mary were raised by step-father Albert Baldwin and mother Margy Morrill. Gerry married William G. Woods in 1952, sharing their interests in science, natural history, languages, culture, music, dancing, gardening and travel. In 1961, she and Bill, took their children, boarded an ocean liner and moved to Australia to pursue a research opportunity for Bill. In the course of their 46 year marriage together, they would continue to travel the world together and visited over 25 countries. Gerry could socially converse in several languages. When they returned to the States, Gerry earned a Bachelor's Degree in history from California State University Fullerton and then two Masters Degrees with high academic honors. An ardent supporter of the community college system, she was awarded Professor Emeritus for her 23 years of service to Riverside Community College where she taught Anthropology, Sociology and Chicano Studies. Gerry loved Riverside and believed in serving her community. When Bill died of leukemia, she founded a leukemia support group and received the Chairman's 50th Anniversary Citation from the Leukemia Society of America for her work. She served as a board member of the Riverside Metropolitan Museum for eight years and was past President of the Riverside Opera Guild. Surviving are her twin children, son Lee Woods and daughter Jennifer (married to Mike) Casebeer, all of Riverside, CA; seven grandchildren, Jason Woods, Brian Woods, Justin Woods, Caitlyn Woods, Steven Woods, Megan Casebeer and Brice Casebeer. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. William G. Woods and a son, Jeffrey W. Woods. A Celebration of Life Service, followed by a super buffet, will be held in her honor at California Citrus State Historic Park, 9400 Dufferin Avenue, Riverside, 92504 on Friday, June 7th at 4:00 PM.
