Gerda Jaeppelt Obituary
Gerda Jaeppelt, matriarch of the Jaeppelt family, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 30, 2017. In life, she was known for her class, work ethic, positive attitude, earned respect, motherly instincts, wisdom and the occasional (loving but stern) hair pull when the children were not behaving. After arriving in the United States from Germany following WWII, she married the love of her life, Hans, in 1954 after a short but efficient courtship. Hans, too, was a recent immigrant into the U.S. from Germany following WWII with both Hans and Gerda initially residing in New York City. Married for 63 years, they worked hard building and operating a popular restaurant (The Anchor) with Gerda as the brains of administration and bookkeeping while also being the popular hostess. Gerda and Hans traveled the world as they finally retired comfortably in Surprise, AZ and Coronado, CA in 2004. Gerda is survived by her husband, Hans; her sister, Anneliesa Almares, and her daughters, Dorothy Conrads, Barbara LaRue, Anita Janke and Ursula Salbato. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and numerous loving relatives and friends. Gerda affectionately known as wife, mom, Oma, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and loyal friend, will be sorely missed.
