GEORGE J. TITTINGER 1/25/1915 ~ 3/28/2013 George passed away in Escondido, CA at the age of 98, leaving behind his son, Gary, his wife Lee of 69 years preceded him in 2011 and a son Gregory in 2009. George always had a live for flying and followed his love from teaching flying, flying in Air Shows and ending up as a Captain and Chief Check Pilot for Transworld Airlines, TWA. After retiring from TWA he was a Real Estate Broker in the Riverside area for several years, worked for the DMV at multiple locations in Southern California from which he retired. He found a new love the ocean and boating. He and Lee cruised the Coast from Canada to Mexico, and the off shore Islands. He met Lee, who was a Flight Attendant, on TWA and they were married in 1941. During the War, WWII, George and many other Airline Pilots were commandeered in to flying with ATC, Air Transport Command, in it's IDC, Inter-Continental Division. Just two of his missions were to fly in to China at night and pick up Pilots and Crew Members from the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo. Also flew the first plane in to Rome to pick up Jewish Survivors of the prison camp. George spent his early years in Chicago, IL. After marriage the family lived in Kansas City, Riverside, Newport Beach, Hemet and Escondido. George was a warm and friendly person who loved people, children and animals. To say that George will be missed would be a great under statement! A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm, Thursday, April 11th at Wesley United Methodist Church, 5770 Arlington Avenue, Riverside, CA 92504
