Gloria Cawthorn

1925 - 2018 Obituary Condolences

Gloria Darlene Cawthorn was born January 3, 1925 to Pliny and Mary McEvoy Goodfriend in Santa Monica, CA. She passed away on January 14, 2018 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA at the age of 93.
Gloria grew up in Southern California and Seattle, where she attended the University of Washington. It was in Washington where she met Charles Cawthorn Jr., who was an officer in the United States Navy. They married in 1946 and moved to New York and then Pennsylvania for his job as a metallurgist. They had four children: David, Carol, Charles III and Diane.
In 1962, the family relocated to Southern California. When her children were older, Gloria began working at her local library, placing books on the shelves and eventually attaining the highest position she could without a library science degree. She was very proud of starting a career in her 40s and working for 20-plus years with the Los Angeles County Library System.
Gloria and Charles retired to Hemet, CA in the late 1980s. Gloria liked to crochet, buy and sell collectibles and do jigsaw puzzles - a lifelong love that started with her grandfather, Aaron "Papa" Goodfriend.
Gloria was predeceased by her baby brother, Duane and husband, Charles. She is survived by two sisters, four children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved unconditionally.
A viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 at McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet, followed by a committal ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery at 2 p.m., where she will be interred with her husband.
