GRACE E. WICKHAM Grace Edith Wickham, a veteran of World War II and an active registered nurse for 50 years, died in her sleep Feb. 23 at the home of her daughter in Tempe, Arizona. She was a native of Clarks Grove, Minn., a Danish-American farming community. She lived most of her life in southern California. Her husband, Paul Leonard Wickham, who preceded her in death in 1989, was chief engineer on the second stage of the NASA Saturn V Rocket that sent American Astronauts to the moon in 1969. Mrs. Wickham was the daughter of Peter Ansgar Madsen and Valborg Marie (Jensen) Madsen. In 1942, she was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and stationed at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, where she met her husband as he recovered from service-related injuries. She moved to Arizona from Hemet in 2009. She was the beloved mother of 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom live in Arizona, California and Oregon.
