Gwen Madsen Obituary
Gwendolyn Noack Madsen was born just after midnight at home on December 5, 1926 to David Julius Noack and Gladys Mary (Walter), their first child. She was raised in Blackfoot, Idaho alongside her 3 sisters; LaVieve, Glenna, Mary Lee (a 4th sister Bethel died in infancy) and brother Russell.
Following graduation from Nursing School, she met (on a blind date) Robert (Bob) Madsen whom she married on June 7,1949. They embarked on a life with a shared love of travel and adventure. Leaving Idaho they lived briefly in Wyoming before moving to CA in 1962. Bob's career in the airline industry based him at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) until he retired in 1981. They flew a lot of trips out of that home base over the years.
Following Bob's passing in 2000, Gwen went on many other adventures with her youngest sister Mary Lee, traveling up and down the West Coast, including visits to British Columbia to see their sister LaVieve. The ocean and the beach remained a favorite destination for Gwen throughout her life.
At home Gwen was known for her prodigious garden and an appreciation for birds, which her mother had also shared. As she wryly said once "I like hibiscus, I know because I had 32 of them at one point".
Gwen was honored to pass away at home October 26, 2017, to end her life as she had begun it, with family.
She is survived by her immediate family, sisters Glenna White and MaryLee Hamilton, sister-in-law Nadine Williamson; daughters Cindy and Lisa; grandchildren Andrea, Lizbeth, John, Robert, Thea, James and Electra, and great-grandchildren Emmett and Dominik.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and deep appreciation for the team at Hope Hospice. We couldn't have done it without your truly loving help and support. No Services are planned.
