Harold Storeim Obituary
Age 83, passed away at his home in Riverside, CA, surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 7, 2018. It is believed he died of complications following open heart surgery in April for an aortic aneurysm.
Ken was born October 12, 1934 in Washington D.C. to Harold Kenneth (Knute) Sr and Grace Jordan (McCollum) Storeim. He was always a hard worker starting his work career delivering papers and babysitting at age 10 in Arlington, Virginia. His family moved to Southern California in 1946 (age 11) and he attended Poly High School and Community College in Riverside, California. He was a basketball star and local news articles referred to him as "Swisher" Storeim highlighting his scoring contributions to the team.
On July 11, 1954, he married his beloved Nancy Jane Butterfield. They were married almost 60 years before her death in 2014. Together, they had 3 children. Ken and Nancy were very involved in the church and community as scout leaders, softball coaches, and leading bible study. They enjoyed water skiing, ballroom and square dancing. Both were very involved and devoted to their grandchildren, including camping at the beach, hiking down the Grand Canyon and traveling to other states. Ken worked in the dairy industry for over 45 years, primarily as an executive in sales and management. A former customer said that Ken saved his business by always providing excellent advice and customer service, "He was one in a million. Ken never knew the word 'No'."
He was a man of integrity, wisdom and faith and a true gentleman. Ken was an inspiration and a role model to others in his personal and professional life, always treating others with respect. He would make all people feel welcome, important and included in his home and in business. A family member says, "He was my idol. I will never forget his never-ending support, always calm, always intelligent, never negative." Ken routinely uttered "Bless Your Heart" to his loved ones, an endearing and favorite expression his dad also used.
Ken is survived by daughter Connie (Glancy) Shorr; son Steven Storeim & wife Tami; daughter Cheryl Quiroz & husband Donald; grandson Joshua Storeim & wife Debbie; grandson Justin Glancy; granddaughter Nikki Storeim & partner Constantino (Jr) Gonzalez; granddaughter Lindsay Storeim; grandson Derek Quiroz; granddaughter Emily Quiroz and "adopted" granddaughter Thuy Martinez; former son-in-law Jack Glancy (dad to Justin) and former daughter-in-law Kristy Storeim Borden (mother to Joshua, Nikki & Lindsay); great granddaughter Samantha Storeim Gonzalez (daughter to Nikki & Jr) and great grandson Kole Storeim (son to Joshua & Debbie); sisters Peg Michael & Kathy (Holloway) Storeim; brother-in-law Dennis Butterfield & wife Sandra; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
