Hazel Irene Evensen Obituary
HAZEL IRENE EVENSEN July 10, 1922 - December 25, 2016 Hazel went peacefully to be with the Lord on Christmas night at the age of 94. Hazel led a bountiful life. Born and reared in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hazel worked as a personnel officer for the Chicago Ordinance District Milwaukee REG during WWII. In 1945 Hazel married her beloved, Andrew J. Evensen, and later that year they moved out west to the warmer climate of Riverside, CA. For the next 30 years, Hazel worked for the Riverside County Planning Department, where she retired in 1976. Upon arriving in Riverside, Hazel and Andy began cultivating a citrus grove on their property. After her husband's passing, Hazel continued to operate their grove, amidst slowly losing her eyesight due to Macular Degeneration. Hazel was extremely active in the community. She is a past president of both AMC Cancer Research and the Zonta Club of Riverside. She served on the Salvation Army Advisor Board, Riverside Core; the Riverside Community Hospital Health Foundation; the Riverside Gage Canal Water Board; and the Windsor Pumping Company Board. Hazel was also a member of the Friends of the Mission Inn, the Mission Inn Foundation, Friends of the Riverside County Library, Friends of the Riverside County Museum, and was a supporter of the March Field Air Museum. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for almost 60 years. Hazel is survived by her cousin, Dr. JoAnn Polley of Northfield, MN and many friends who she so generously touched throughout her life. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 11th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, Hazel had suggested contributions to Calvary Presbyterian Church, the Salvation Army Riverside Core, or March Field Air Museum.
