Helen Chavel Sullivan Obituary
HELEN CHAVEL SULLIVAN Our mother, Helen Chavel Sullivan, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the age of 84 with her family by her side. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on Sept. 2, 1929 and was raised by Greek immigrant parents, Aristotle and Nitsa Chavel with her two sisters, Stefani and Mary. They moved to Los Gatos, California in 1949 and she met our father, Frederick R. Sullivan on the train en route to California. Mom loved the years we spent at Castle A.F.B. where Dad was a B-52 gunner. She had many friends and was active in the church and social groups. We moved here to Riverside (March A.F.B.) in 1965 and she remained here until her death except for a brief return to the bay area in the 1970's. She adored her grandchildren, Carrie Mondt (Brett), Bryan Lounsbury (Melissa), Stephanie DeGraffenreid (Michael), Vanessa Hardin and Shelley Hardin, as well as her precious great-grandchildren Andrew and Aiden Mondt and Katherine and Cameron Lounsbury. A close second to the grandchildren was watching Jeopardy (and competing with her granddaughter, Stephanie, for the "final Jeopardy answer") and reading. Boy, did she love a good crime novel! She leaves behind her loving children, Mary (Richard) Lounsbury and Christine Sullivan, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephew Stephen Scully and niece Chrisanne Sahines. There will be a private family memorial to scatter her ashes. Thank you to all our friends and co-workers who have been so kind and loving during this difficult time.
