HELEN JEAN RIGGS, 79, of Banning, California, passed away on January 13, 2016, from cancer. Helen was born in Fort Atkinson, WI on July 24,1936 to Edward and Violet Schatzschneider. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School. She attended The Bryman School for medical reception and was the office manager for two different OB/GYNS. Helen's husband Jesse Riggs preceded her in death. They married on November 3, 1962 and were married for 43 years. They met at Imperial Bowling Alley and had a whirlwind courtship and married within three months. They retired to Banning, CA in 1996 after living in the South Bay for 34 years. Jesse was her caregiver when first diagnosed with cancer in 2003. Helen was active in church activities having served as president of the women's organization in the Southwest and Pacifica synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and served in different capacities. She was a member of the Sun Lake's Women's Golf Club. She loved playing golf and was competitive in team play where she was captain for several years. Helen also served on the board of directors and was a past president of the Fairway Villas District 10 at Sun Lakes. Helen is survived by her children, daughter, Robin Riggs, and son, Randy (Hoai) Riggs; one aunt, Geraldine Brannaka; one brother, Don (Gail) Schatzschneider; two nephews, Eric (Jasmine) Schatzschneider and Mark (Megan) Schatzschneider; cousin, Richard Shook, and her adorable dachshund, Gretchen. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on January 25, 2016 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1320 Williams St., Banning. Pastor Paul Scheitlin officiating. Private services with interment at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the , City of Hope or Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Helen's memory.
