Henry "Hank" Montoy Obituary
HENRY "HANK" MONTOY 10/8/25 7/15/15 Henry was born in Salina, KS, the second of five brothers. He is survived by his brother Joseph. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Alvita. Henry had a passion for life and the game of baseball. He was approached in his late teens by the Cleveland Indians baseball team but due to the family's financial circumstances he was unable to play and had to pass up the opportunity. He worked as a shoe cobbler to help make ends meet. At the age of 18 Henry joined the USMC and served in WWII in the "Battle of Peleliu" in the Palau Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1946, as a Cpl. After his military service he settled in El Centro, CA. where he retired from the City of El Centro. He was a very active member and a "GO TO" guy for Our Lady of Guadalupe church. He was loved by many and a testimony to that was the large amount of Compadres he had. His earlier years in El Centro, in his spare time, he played baseball and umpired. He leaves 5 children: Rudy, Henry "Butch" (deceased), Dale, Steve and Sarah; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He lived the last 15 years with his loving daughter Sarah and son-in-law Ernie Cesena. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball and attending their games. He will always be remembered to many for his smile and his ability to share his life stories. Viewing: 7/23/15, 4pm - 8pm; Rosary 6pm, both at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside, CA. Mass: 7/24/15, 12:30pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Graveside Ceremony: 7/24/15, 2:30pm at United States National Cemetery.
