HENRY WALLACE DECKER Emeritus Professor of French at the University of California, Riverside, died peacefully at his home on March 6. He was 92. Professor Decker was born on September 3, 1923, in Orange, New Jersey, to Richard Caton Decker and Helen Smith Decker. He grew up in New Rochelle, NY and served in the 104th Infantry Division from 1942-1945 in Europe. After the war he married Jane Munro Hancock, and earned a PhD in Romance Languages at the University of Michigan. He joined the faculty of the French Department at UCR in 1955, serving as Chair for many years. Professor Decker's love of learning and passionate devotion to teaching continued after his retirement in 1991 as he mentored undergraduates and wrote his memoir of his war experience. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane, his parents, and his brother Richard Caton Decker, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Decker Steen, a niece, three nephews and eight grandnieces and nephews. An interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on April 29 at 2 pm, followed by a celebration of Professor Decker's life at his home in Riverside.
