Hortencia (Tencha) Ybarra Obituary
HORTENCIA (TENCHA) YBARRA
Hortencia (Tencha) Ybarra, born May 20, 1935, in Riverside, CA, passed away September 12, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle against gall bladder cancer. Her generosity of spirit was matched by her love of family which motivated everything she did. Her loss leaves a hole in our hearts that can only be filled with rich memories.
Tencha graduated from Poly High and later obtained her Cosmetology license from RCC. She believed in service to her community and dedicated 41 years to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. She started as a volunteer for 13 years prior to becoming a staff member as director of religious education later retiring as the parish administrator.
Tencha was a warrior, she conquered breast cancer twice and defied the grim diagnosis of gall bladder cancer for three years. Quick with a smile, a heartfelt hug or a hand wave from the front porch, she easily connected with everyone she met. Everyone who ever met Tencha, left a better person.
Tencha was preceded in death by her parents Antonio Lopez and Aurelia Porras as well as her infant son Juan. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Rudolph (Rudy); children Antonio (Beverly Zehringer), Alexander (Donna), Corraine, Yolanda Sena (Michael), Armando (Steven Morgan), Amelia Ybarra-Hart; granddaughters Isabella Sena and Josephine Ybarna-Hart; brothers Ruben Lopez (Cindy Simmons) and Alfred Lopez as well as a large extended family.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Cambridge Hospice. Especially Jane and Dalia who treated Tencha like a member of the family. Heart filled thanks and gratitude to Ana Maria Perez, caregiver extraordinaire.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Rosary will be at 10:00am, Mass at 10:30am, Interment at 1:15pm at Riverside National Cemetery. Gathering at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine after Interment PRESTON AND SIMONS MORTUARY,
