Imogene "Birdie" Powell Obituary
IMOGENE "BIRDIE" POWELL
1920-2017
On November 27, 2017 Birdie passed peacefully in her sleep at the age 97. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50+ years Dennis. Birdie was the daughter of James and Inez Brown and sister to her deceased brothers Ed and Bud Brown, and living sisters Margie Gould of Pedley and Wilma Stainbrook of Rialto and sister-in-law Ruth Brown of Riverside.
Birdie along with her husband Dennis were long time very active members of the Fraternal order of Eagles, Aerie 997. She held every chair in the Women's Auxiliary and held the Chair of Chaplain longer than any other women in the auxiliary. She received many distinguished awards from Aerie 997 as well as from the State Fraternal Order of Eagles. Her love for the Eagles didn't go without notice. Her joy was serving tacos on Monday nights at the Eagles for over 25 years for one. She was the official hot sauce maker and took great pride in it. She also raised money for the City of Hope every year on St. Patrick's Day serving her special corned beef and cabbage and having her White Elephant Table and Raffles that were always an added bonus to her St. Paddy's day celebration at the Hall. All monies were donated to City of Hope.
Birdie and Dennis, who served in the Air Force, lived in many areas of Michigan, Texas, and Sacramento before returning to Highgrove were Birdie was born and raised, after his retirement to make it their forever home. Birdie loved to fish, crochet, and sew in her younger years and was a great cook as well.
Birdie is survived by her daughter Betty Stinson; 3 grandsons Mark and Diane Stinson, Jerry and Margret Stinson and David Stinson; six great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.
Birdie had a wonderful full life and will be remembered by many and missed by many more.
Graveside Services only will be held at Green Acres Cemetery in Bloomington, Veteran Circle on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2 pm.
