1915 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
J. WAYNE MCINTYRE Wayne passed away May 31, 2015 at the age of 99. He was born on December 4, 1915 to Franklin and Bertha McIntyre in Brazil, Indiana, joining his older brother Burril. He was graduate of Indiana State University in Terre Haute and was a popular bandleader in the area. He was the leader of Wayne McIntyre and the Indiana Statesmen during the era of the "Big Bands." In 1940 he married the love of his life, Betty Woods from Bowling Green, Indiana. During World War II he served in the Marine Corps as 1st Lieutenant and was stationed in Hawaii. When the war was over he and Betty settled in San Diego, California where he worked for the Marston's Company department store. This started his career in the retail business. Two children were born to them in San Diego, daughter Julia and son John. In 1956 he moved his family to Riverside, California to work at Rouses' department store. He then helped form Retail Merchandising Service in 1958. He later formed his own business Wayne McIntyre and Associates from which he retired. In 1985 his sweet Betty passed away. He is survived by his daughter Julia Lo (Dave); son John (Kathi); 2 nephews Wayne and Alan; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his long time companion Lillian Popko. Services will be held June 18: A memorial service will be at 9am at the Grove Community Church chapel. Graveside service will follow at the Riverside National Cemetery.
