James A. Zimmerman Obituary
JAMES A. ZIMMERMAN, 77, loving father, grandfather and friend to many, of Riverside, California, passed away on March 21, 2015 at Kindred Care, Ontario, California after a three month hospitalization. James was born November 26, 1937 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin the son of Mathias and Jennie Zimmerman. He was a 1956 graduate of Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. In 1963 he went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and pursued a long and successful career in sales. Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving as a yeoman from 1957-1959. He was married to Joyce Grant of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin for 32 years. His love of sports was legendary among those who knew him. He had a knack for remembering trivia, scores and stories related to his favorite players and teams. One of his most memorable stories is that on the day he was born his father trimmed the hair of Casey Stengel, at that time the manager of the Boston Braves. Being a bat boy for the semi-pro Fond du Lac Panthers was a highlight of Jim's youth. He was an avid golfer and swimmer throughout his life, along with being a dedicated Green Bay Packers and Anaheim Angels fan. Many of his childhood friends and members of his 1956 graduating class were among his closest friends until the day he passed away. One of his most enduring friendships was that with Tony Galanis of Anaheim, California. He and Jim graduated from Goodrich High School together and lost contact for several years, only to be reunited when Jim went on a sales call in California where Tony was the manager. After retirement, James became a docent for the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Waleed Borisly of Kuwait City, Kuwait; his grandchildren, Peter Zimmerman, Hannah Borisly and Rashid Borisly of Riverside, California; his sister Katherine Burkhard of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; his special companion, Lucille Bosch of LaVerne, California and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Peter Grant Zimmerman. James will be laid to rest on April 8, 2015 at 2:15 pm at the Riverside National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Green Acres Funeral Home in Bloomington, California and an online tribute can be found at: http://obits.dignitymemorial.com/dignity-memorial/obituary.aspx?n=JAMES-ZIMMERMAN&lc=2381&pid=174485801&mid=6377685&cid=em.legacy.dm.2381.6377685 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the or a .
