JAMES G. PETTEY, D.D.S.
James Pettey was born March 11, 1946 in San Francisco, CA to Inge Bruenger and James H. Pettey, D.D.S. They moved to Riverside, CA in the early 1950s and Jim graduated from Ramona High School in 1964.
In 1965 he married Jean Elliott Pettey and had three sons, James P. Pettey of Oklahoma City, Donald G. Pettey of Manitou Springs, CO., and Douglas D. Pettey of Yucaipa, CA. He is predeceased by baby girl Pettey. Don and his wife Kate Reilly Pettey have two girls, Maeve and Lilah, while Doug and his wife Kelly Tatro Pettey also have two girls, Halie and Makenna.
Jim attended RCC, La Sierra College and Loma Linda University graduating with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He opened his practice in The Desert Building on Magnolia Avenue in Riverside, CA. and to his wife's chagrin, his office manager for the first ten years was his mother-in-law Louise Elliott.
The family moved to Redlands in 1979 where Jim was a Webelo Den Leader; a coach for Redlands JAAF football, which his son Doug played; co-president of Music Boosters along with his wife Jean; a traveler along with the RCC band where Don played trumpet; a past president of Redlands Sunrise Rotary; and Secretary for Riverside Pilots Association. He volunteered to fly with fellow doctors to Nicaragua for several years to work on patients.
In his later years he welcomed Dr. Jerry Miller to move his patients into Jim's office where they developed a close relationship. Jerry also invited Jim to attend Riverside Noon Rotary on Thursdays and, thru Rotary, the Pettey's were able to travel to several countries.
Jim loved his work as a Dentist, he considered his patients his friends, and had plans to work for an additional five years. Unfortunately Acute Myeloid Leukemia ended Jim's life on November 9th while at home in Calimesa, CA.
Services to be held in Redlands at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 16th at 1 p.m.
Besides his immediate family he leaves behind his sister Irene of San Diego and brother Donald A. Pettey of Oceanside.
