JAMES GERALD WOODEN Jim was born on June 23, 1928 in Santa Monica, CA, to parents Gerald E. Wooden and Grace Benton Wooden. He died at home in Murrieta on March 9, 2014 after an almost 2-year, brave fight with lung cancer. Jim graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1946 and graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a lieutenant. Jim worked at Douglas Aircraft and Rocketdyne. In the 1960's he discovered sailing and the game of bridge. In 1981, Jim and his wife Jean moved to Friday Harbor, WA where he managed a marine supply store. When he retired in 1997, they decided to move back to California (Murrieta). Jim's main entertainment was playing bridge, and he achieved the rank of ACBL "Diamond" Life Master. He directed the Colony Bridge Club for 15 years. Jim is survived by his wife Jean of 40 years; sons John (Irma) and Jim (Kim); step-daughter Cathy Hendricks; granddaughters Lynn, Christina, Angela, Tessa, Samantha and Jordan; sister Linda Card (Ron) and cousin Betty Raiser (Don). Interment at the Riverside National Cemetery will be private. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Jim's Life on Sunday, March 23 at 12 noon at the Colony Clubhouse in Murrieta. Luncheon will be served.
