James Lawrence Cooper

1929 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
JAMES LAWRENCE COOPER Beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2013 in Joshua Tree from congestive heart disease. Jim was born October 14, 1929 in Hollywood, CA to Lauren E. Cooper and Catherine Ann Estes and moved to Riverside at a young age where he attended local schools. At age 18 he was hired by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph and worked with the company for 40 years before retirement. Starting as a lineman, Jim worked the desert area lines, became a Marketing Representative and later Personnel Administrator. But he proudly preferred his early days for not "burning" a pole as a climber. Jim met his future wife, Mary Helen Lane, at Poly High School, were married in 1949 and shared a long and loving life for 54 years until her death in 2003. In 2010, he moved to Yucca Valley where his daughter lived to enjoy his passion for outdoor adventures and jeeping. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Helen and is survived by his family - daughter Linda (Ed) Ochoa of Yucca Valley, Lawrence Cooper of Anchorage, AK; sister Susanne Cleary (Ed) Brookston, IN; grandsons Sean Ochoa of Renton, WA and Tyler Cooper of Englewood, FL; granddaughter Emili Ann Cooper of Kodak, TN; and great granddaughter Ava Lawren Spangler of Kodak, TN.; and was "Uncle Jim" to many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed and was loved by family and friends but is now eternally with his "Babe". In lieu of flowers, please donate to the american Heart Society. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 4845 Brockton Ave., Riverside on November 22 at 11:00 am, followed by a celebration luncheon.
