James Marcus Cox Obituary
Mark Cox passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017 at 7:15 PM. He was 97 years into his life.
Born in Bamburg, South Carolina. He lived a full and prosperous life. He started as a simple farm hand, plowing fields before most of us learn to drive. At the age of 17 he moved quickly into leadership in the United States Navy, Merchant Marines and United States Coast Guard. He achieved ranks of Chief Mate, Lieutenant Commander and could Navigate "any tonnage ship in any ocean".
Perhaps his most captivating moment was being torpedoed and fired upon by a German U-boat off the tip of the Florida coast during WWll in 1944 while on an Oil Tanker named J. A. Moffett, Jr (a Standard Oil of New Jersey vessel).
In 1944, he married his loving wife, Catherine Dougher , now 99 years old. He is survived by his wife Catherine Cox and all six of their wonderful children: Joan Swartz 71, Micheal Cox 69, Dolores Griffin 67, Susan Hannan 65, Patricia Bracale 63, and Richard Cox 61, as well as 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
After his military service, Mark went on to become a Master IBEW Electrician (65 year member) and then establishing The Mark Cox Electric, Inc., a well respected NECA/IBEW firm.
World traveler and friend to many. Few can say they lived a fuller life.
