James Monroe Middleton Obituary
JAMES MONROE MIDDLETON James Monroe Middleton died peacefully in his home on September 13, 2016 in Temecula, CA. He was 83. James was born on July 4, 1933 in Cape Girardo, MO to his parents, George and Nina Middleton. He grew up in Sikeston, MO and upon graduation from Sikeston High School, he attended Rolla School of Mines and went on to become a 1st Lt in the Marine Corps. While a Marine, he flew helicopters and received the Air Medal for saving the lives of 11 marines while deployed on Okinawa. After his service in the Marine Corps, he continued to pursue his passion of flying helicopters. He worked as a Captain for 12 years with Los Angeles Airways, then spent the next 30 years as a Compliance Officer for the NLRB. He retired in 2001 and dedicated his remaining time to his grandchildren. James was a social, active man who was deeply involved in helping others. Motivated to help our youth learn to read, he spent many hours volunteering at his grandchildren's elementary school. He also kept busy volunteering at Classic Rotors Air Museum in Ramona, CA where he was able to stay close to his true passion helicopters. His family and friends will always remember him as a happy, fun loving person. James is survived by his wife of over 60 years, JoAnne; his daughter Christine of Los Angeles, CA; his daughter Kathy of Temecula, CA; and two grandchildren, Jake and MacKenzie Fink. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nina; sisters, Mary Frances Middleton, Ruth Ann Tetley, and Jane Culbertson; and brothers, Thomas and John. James' final resting place will be Miramar National Cemetery, where he will enjoy daily flyovers. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Classic Rotors Air Museum, Ramona, CA.
