The wife of the late Philip Lewis, who died in 1990, she was born on April 3, 1925 in Shiloh, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late Clarkson and Elizabeth Bonham of Shiloh.
She and her husband moved to Riverside in 1948 and lived in their present home since 1956 where they raised five daughters. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside and taught school for 25 years in Grand Terrace. Jean was a member of the Riverside Seventh Day Baptist Church where she was organist for over 60 years. She participated locally as a Deaconess, Chairman of the Advisory Council and Treasurer of the Board. She served on National and International Denomination Boards and Committees including Secretary of the World Federation and received the Women's Board "Robe of Achievement" award for service.
She was also an active member of the Association of American University Women, American Guild of Organists, and California Retired Teachers Association, Riverside #21.
She volunteered as a Docent at the Mission Inn (20 years) and at the Marcy Branch of the Riverside Public Library. She counted everyone she met as a friend and kept in touch with many. She loved eating daily with her breakfast group and traveling. She visited family across the United States and participated in Elderhostels both on this continent and in Europe. She kept copious journals. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, granddaughter, Kate McAllister, and several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
The girls are deeply grateful to her caregivers who have supported them and kept her lovingly in her home for the past two years.
