Jeanette Elizabeth (Mennes) Saunders Obituary
JEANETTE ELIZABETH (MENNES) SAUNDERS Age 92, died peacefully on May 25, 2013, at the home of her daughter. Born on July 2, 1920 in Madison, Wisconsin, to Peter and Olive (Cunningham) Mennes, Jeanette's family moved to Riverside, CA in 1924, where she attended local schools, and graduated from Riverside Poly High in 1938. She married John A. (Jack) Saunders on March 2, 1941. The marriage lasted 70 years, until the death of her husband in April of 2011. Jeanette loved her extended family, and there were annual family reunions on both the Mennes and Saunders sides. The Mennes family would typically rent a park to handle all the relatives. The Saunders side was more spread out across the country, and the local relatives would fit into a house / yard. Jeanette also loved playing cards, especially Hand and Foot, and board games with her children when they were young. She and Jack took their children on yearly vacations, including camping in Sequoia National Park (several years, with other Mennes families), and trips to "the snow" in "the mountains." In later years she and Jack took many trips in their car or motor home, including cross country trips to Maryland and Canada to visit their daughters and grandchildren, and camping trips to the mountains with their sons and grandchildren. Jeanette loved her children and there was never a doubt that she wanted only good for them. Jeanette and Jack were both very active in the Maranatha movement within the Catholic church. For many years, until slowed by age, they attended prayer groups in and around Riverside. Their faith in, and love of, Christ impacted many. Jeanette is survived by her four children: John (Karen) Saunders of Glendale, CA, Susan (Roy) Sprague of Pie Town, NM, Karen Maranville of Riverside, and Michael (Cathy) Saunders of Riverside. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Jeanette was predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents, and all of her 7 brothers and sisters: Olive, Ray, Don, Vernon, Jane, Robert, and Bert. A memorial rosary service will be held Sunday, June 9 from 4-8 p.m. at Acheson & Graham Mortuary. There will be a mass of Christian burial at St. Francis de Sales Church on Monday, June 10 at 10:00 am, followed immediately by interment at Olivewood Cemetery.
