Jewel Robinson-Cook Obituary
Age 98, passed away on December 6, 2017 in her home at Hemet West Mobile Estates, with family members at her side. Born November 12, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan, Jewel Starkweather grew up in Plymouth, Michigan. She graduated magna cum laude from Kalamazoo College (Kalamazoo, MI), where she won honors for her debating skills and other achievements. She also met her future husband Gil Robinson there. They lived in Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles during his FBI assignments and eventually settled in Pasadena where they raised their three children. Jewel worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for 24 years, retiring as Security Supervisor.
Jewel and Gil moved to Hemet West in 1981 where they played golf and bridge, and participated in various other activities. After Gil died, Jewel enjoyed traveling to other countries and was active in several Hemet West groups. She married Bill Cook in 1997. The couple played golf and shuffleboard, and took annual cross-country trips in their 5th wheeler.
Jewel was predeceased by Gil and Bill, in addition to her three sisters and brother. Survivors include daughter Patricia Grant (Charlie), and sons Richard (Mary) and David (Lynn), in addition to grandchildren Damon (Lisa), Monica (Koral) and Sage, great grandchildren Seth and Logan, nine nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and cousins.
A Celebration of Life was held on December 15 at Hemet West.
