Joan L. Fortino Obituary
JOAN L. FORTINO entered eternal rest on 12-12-2016 with her sons at her side in her home of over 43 years. She was born on March 4, 1937 to parents Calvin and Audrey Guest in Pontiac, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Audrey Guest, brother, Maurice, and sisters LaVerna and Lois. She was also predeceased by her husband of over 59 years Dominick, sons, Dominick Lorrine II and Jeffrey Lyle and niece, Lois Beth Dinsmore. She married her high school sweetheart Dominick Fortino on April 14, 1954. She was an accomplished artist and avid reader. Ultimately she followed her two older sons and graduated from the University of California at Riverside, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1992. She became a credentialed teacher and principally taught adult education until her retirement. Her husband of almost 59 years served proudly in the United States Air Force and the family traveled extensively across the United States and throughout Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. Our mother meticulously planned all of those vacations. After both retired, they made a number of extended cross-country trips visiting old friends, family, and doing some sight-seeing. She was a loving and caring mother to her five sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joan will be missed by her family, sons, Micheal (Sharon), Scott, and Joel, all of Riverside, California; grandchildren, Christopher Fortino, and Dominique (Nick) Bazanos, great-grandchildren, Aiden, McKenzie, Sophia Bazanos and Madeline Ann Fortino. She is also survived by her nephews, Bob Wall, Timothy Guest, Danny Guest and Steve Ransom. She is survived by her nieces, Geremy Clark, Juanita Wade, Lynne Marie Appleyard, Debbie Hampton, and Valerie Kay Garnett. She will be buried at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the would be a welcome tribute to Joan. Arrangements were entrusted to 9695 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, California 92503, (951) 784-4071.
