Joan Marie Conn Obituary
JOAN MARIE CONN, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia, in Rancho Mirage, CA. She was born Nov. 25, 1934, the first child of James Monroe York and Nellie Rae McDonald, in Jester, Greer County, Oklahoma. She married Trois Ray Helvy on Sept. 15, 1951. They had five children before the marriage ended. She later married Clarence Adrian Moe (Myron Oliphant Webber) on Oct. 22, 1965 and still later Chuck Wert on Nov. 18, 1968. Her final husband was Maynard Conn whom she married Dec. 16, 1982 in Palm Springs, California. She cared for him after a stroke until his passing Sept. 30, 1987. After her children were raised, she achieved a life long goal, and obtained her Nursing Degree from RCC. She moved from Riverside to the Salton Sea in North Shore, CA, where she worked for Indio Community Hospital, currently named John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital several years before retiring. Upon her retirement, she moved to Menifee to live with Jack and Julie Wickerd. She was a very loving and caring individual whose special love was her family. She was a devoted grandmother and loved to do small things to make her grandchildren feel special. She did many, many things for and with all of her grandchildren. She taught them how to hunt for bugs and how to climb trees. Family and friends will always remember the frog hunts. Even though she didn't see some of her grandchildren often, she loved them deeply and prayed for them regularly. Joan loved reading many kinds of books. She loved reading mysteries and science fiction. Her love of reading was passed on to her children and grandchildren. She had a hard life in many ways, but never lost hope. She would always say that things were looking up and she was doing well. She will be missed for her kind smiles, warm hugs, lost Uno and Old Maid games, and great meals, and especially for her encouragement, and love. We will miss her. She is survived by her brothers, Jim (Sherryl) York and Bill (Margie) York of Redding, CA; her five children: Trois Helvy of North Shore, CA., Ray (Ruth) Helvy of West Valley City, UT, Lisa (Kris) Hansen of Austin, TX, Julie (Jack) Wickerd of Menifee, and Fred Helvy of San Diego, CA. She had 2 step children: Lailani Wert Fereday of Baton Rouge, LA, and Roxanna Wert Thomas of Lebanon, TN. She has 10 grandchildren, including Gabe (Yaina) Cogar, Adria Cogar, Suzannah, Russell, Michael and Bryan Helvy; Jennifer Helvy and Christi Helvy, John and Jeffrey Wickerd. She also has 7 great grandchildren. Per her request, there was no memorial service. She will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched, with love.
