John Billheimer Obituary
CORRECTION JOHN BILLHEIMER Age 94, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his home in Riverside, CA. Born in Pomona, CA, John graduated from Cal Tech with a Masters in Chemical Engineering. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in The Second World War. On August 6, 1945 he was recognized by the War Department of the United States of America for his participation "in work essential to the production of the Atomic Bomb (the Manhattan Project), thereby contributing to the successful conclusion of World War II." After the war, he worked for Aerojet in northern California for 17 years. He returned to southern California to work for the South Coast Air Pollution Control District for 10 years after which he retired. During his lifetime he had a fascination with and an active hobby in, the collection and display of butterflies. Survivors include his wife, Clair Eby Billheimer; his nephew Terry Maxson; Terry's children, Derek, Alyssa, Emily, and six grandchildren. John's stepchildren include Robert Eby, his wife, Louise and their children, David and Allison; Margaret Howe, her husband, Tom, and her son, Matt, his wife Kim, and great grandson, Aron; and John Eby, his daughter, Sara Bowles, and her husband, Cliff. Viewing will be at 10AM and services will be at 12PM, Wednesday, September 4, Akes Family Funeral Home, followed by a 1;30PM interment at Riverside National Cemetery.
