JOHN CHARLES BARNICOAT Age 72, died in the County of Riverside on October 27, 2015, after a battle with cancer. Born January 26, 1943 in Detroit, MI, he moved to Riverside in 1944. Predeceased by parents, Walter and Isabel, and brothers, Guy and Donald. Loving father of Dawn Emberson (Tom Bemiller), Corona and DeeAnn (David) Kojnik, Lancaster; brother to Ann (David) Harlow, Riverside; survived by four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. John attended Ramona High School. He found his love for basketball after a coach at Ramona saw this tall, gangly sophomore trying to play football. He worked with John until he became his star player. In 1962, Jerry Tarkanian encouraged John to play for him at RCC and then go onto Long Beach State. He also played for The All Army Team during his military service, 1966 - 1968. He sold insurance for 46 plus years and owned several companies. Founder of The Riverside Brewing Co. and member of the Victoria Country Club. John loved to play golf, ski, and travel the world. "Poppy" was well loved by his grandkids and enjoyed sharing Disneyland trips. He was a big man, not only in stature but also in heart. You knew that if he started one of his stories, you would be laughing through it all. Celebration of Life: Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 3:00 p.m. at Victoria Country Club.
