John Colby Festler Obituary
JOHN COLBY FESTLER It's not the date you were born to us, nor the date you were returned home to the Lord it's what you do in between those dates that really matter. John did it all! He was a miracle birth to Josephine and Marvin Festler and was treated as such by his devoted mother every day of her life. He spent his younger years in Northfield, Minnesota working on the family farm. John attended St. Dominic Catholic School and then graduated from Northfield High School in 1966 as "Wrestler of the Year". He moved on to St. Cloud College where he wrestled for the team until he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. While in the army, John was deployed to Germany where he became good friends with JB Olkie. JB, in turn, became John's brother-in-law and uncle to John's three oldest children, Bryan, Janell, and Stephanie. John began working for the United States Postal Service in 1973. Rain, Shine, Snow, Illness, and Pain he delivered! The San Jacinto Post Office became his home in 1979 until his retirement in 2011 due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident. John met his beloved wife, Karen, at the old San Jacinto post office on Main Street in 1985. They married on March 12, 1988 and bringing with her John's 4th child, Brandie, John's family was now complete. He began his Tae Kwon Do studies at the age of 45 and at age 53, he received his 2nd degree Black Belt. John was the love of Karen's life. He was a loving, caring, protective father, beloved cousin, and loyal friend. He lived life to the fullest, loved what he did, and it always showed. John was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad. He leaves behind his adoring wife of 25 years, Karen; his son Bryan and daughters, Janell, Stephanie, and Brandie; his son-in-law, Bo; and grandson, Chase. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at McWane Family Funeral Home, 350 North San Jacinto Street, Hemet, California. John will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery during a private ceremony. John touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know him and who loved him. Entrusted to the care of McWane Family Funeral Home
