John Edward Sheppard Obituary
JOHN EDWARD SHEPPARD Age 91, passed away on May 6, 2013. He was born in Hanging Rock, Ohio as the youngest of Floyd and Ethel Sheppard's four children. John was his high school valedictorian after 12 years of perfect attendance. He soon joined the Navy as 3rd Class Seaman, and at the time, was the youngest ever to pass all ranks in four years to become a chief. While serving on the USS Guadalcanal air craft carrier during WWII, the ship captured a German submarine, which was towed ashore and remains on display in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. John was married to Helen Bernice Pratt for 36 years. They had five children. He later was married to Clara Bernice Scarborough for 34 years and became stepfather to her four children. All together, John had nine children, 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.. He is survived by all of them and his wife, Clara Bernice. After 21 years in the Navy, John retired with an honorary rank of E-9. He then worked in several aerospace programs, including the Apollo. From 1983, as an enrolled agent, he operated his tax service, J&B Systems, for 25 years. Service to be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00AM at Evans Brown Mortuary, 126 E. Graham Ave., Lake Elsinore, CA 92530. Interment immediately following at 12:30PM at Riverside National Cemetery.
