John Ernest Masten Obituary
JOHN ERNEST MASTEN May 10, 1922 - October 5, 2014 Born in Danville, Illinois, over the line from West Lebanon, Indiana, where he began his education. His family moved to Riverside in 1933. He attended Lowell Elementary, Central Jr. High and graduated from Polytechnic High, class of 1938. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps (which became the U.S. Air Force) attaining the rank of sergeant. Leaving the service at the conclusion of WWII he resided with his younger sister and her husband in Maryland, leaving there to return to California in Long Beach where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for twenty years. He retired and came back to Riverside to be near his sisters.He was a devoted member of the Christian Science faith most of his life. John is survived by his sisters Jeannette M. Harrington (102) and Helen M. Wright (89); nephew Jack Ford; niece Frances J. Stachowicz, all of Riverside, CA and several great-nephews, and nieces and their children. The family thanks The Home Instead company for their compassionate care he received. His ashes were interred at the National Cemetery on October 15.
