John Everett Mckinnis Obituary
JOHN EVERETT MCKINNIS Age 81, of Riverside, California, went on to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 7, 2012, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside. John was born on September 25, 1931 in St. Louis Missouri to Paul and Orvel McKinnis. The family moved to California in 1946. John met the love of his life and wife of 45 yrs. Gerylee Diane Lonskey at Excelsior High School in Norwalk California. After high school they married and had 3 children. After the death of Gery from cancer in 1997 John met a new love and companion for the next 15 years, Gloria Dobbert whom he shared many of life's adventures. John served his country in the US Army from 1950 - 1953. John worked for Pacific Bell for 30 years and after his retirement he continued to work for various companies in the communication business. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years and received a lifetime achievement award. John loved the outdoors. He was involved in and shared his love of firearms with Junior Shooters and taught dozens of family, friends and young shooting enthusiast gun safety and a respect for the II Amendment. John enjoyed hosting St. Patrick's Day winetasting parties, good food and fellowship with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his 3 children, Christy (Hall) of Riverside, Sharon (Shurley) of Redlands and Michael McKinnis of Hemet; love and companion, Gloria Dobbert of Riverside; sisters Judy Arbuckle and Bonny McKinnis and brother Paul Douglas McKinnis Jr. and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. A celebration of life will be held at 10 am on December 1, 2012 at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside California. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the Boy Scouts of America or the National Rifle Association.
