John F. Glasheen Obituary
JOHN FREDERICK GLASHEEN

John Frederick Glasheen passed away on September 24, 2017 in Loma Linda, CA. John was born in Jackson, Michigan on January 30,1947 to Phebe Eliza and Robert Francis Glasheen. He graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas. Briefly thereafter he attended Stephen F. Austin College before joining the U.S. Navy. John always claimed that it was the Navy that changed his course in life for the better. He spent his Navy years in San Diego and on board the USS Samuel Gompers. After an honorable discharge, he graduated from San Diego State in 1975 and shortly afterwards, moved to Riverside and became an elementary school teacher for Moreno Valley Unified School District. His career in Moreno Valley spanned thirty-three years during which time he returned to college earning his master's degree from Cal State San Bernardino.
Teaching was what John loved to do. He never thought of going to work as anything but a joy. He loved teaching, loved being around the kids, and he loved having fun. John was known for his kindness, for being a gentle soul, for his strength of character, his humor, his quick wit, and his antics. No one ever knew what to expect from John but what they always got was a smile and a laugh. Known fondly by the kids as Mr. G., John received many honors for teaching over the years but none meant more to him than being voted Most Influential Elementary School Teacher by the 1998 graduating class of Moreno Valley High; an award bestowed upon him by students.
When he wasn't at school John loved the simple things in life; being outdoors, reading, watching a good game, working in the garden, and spending time with his family. John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa; son Maxwell Dewey; daughter Kelly Rose; stepson Colten Walters (Andrea); stepdaughter Casey Kacsmaryk (Kurtis), and four wonderful grandkids, Tyler, Shelby, Nathan, and Sierra. Also by brothers Charles Glasheen, Robert Glasheen, and sister Peggy Fambrough.
Services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery Thursday, Oct. 5th at 10:15 am
